Privacy Policy for Playlist Cleaner

Playlist Cleaner ("the app") helps you find and remove duplicate videos in your YouTube playlists. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and how it is protected.

1. What data we access

When you sign in with your Google Account, Playlist Cleaner requests the following:

Basic profile info (name, email, profile picture) — to show which account is signed in.
YouTube data via the YouTube Data API v3, scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube — to read your playlists and the videos in them, detect duplicate videos, remove duplicate playlist items, add videos to a playlist, and create new playlists at your request.

2. How we use your data

All data is used exclusively to provide the app's core features on your device:

Listing your YouTube playlists and their contents
Scanning playlists for duplicate videos
Removing duplicate videos from a playlist when you tap "Remove duplicate"
Searching YouTube and adding videos to a playlist (including creating a new playlist) when you choose to

Playlist Cleaner does not have a backend server. The app communicates directly between your device and Google's YouTube Data API — your data is never sent to, processed by, or stored on any server operated by us.

3. Data protection measures

We apply the following safeguards to protect your data, including sensitive credentials:

Encryption in transit: all communication with Google's OAuth and YouTube Data API endpoints uses HTTPS/TLS. The app never sends data over an unencrypted connection.
Encryption at rest: your OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored exclusively in the iOS Keychain, which encrypts data at the hardware level and ties access to your device being unlocked.
App sandboxing: Keychain entries are scoped to Playlist Cleaner only — no other app on your device can read them.
No analytics or tracking SDKs: the app does not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-tracking libraries that could transmit your data elsewhere.

4. Data retention & deletion

Playlist and video data (titles, thumbnails, video IDs, channel names) fetched from the YouTube Data API is held only in memory for the duration of your session. It is automatically discarded when the app is closed, backgrounded for an extended period, or the device is restarted. It is never written to disk, cached in a database, or backed up.
OAuth tokens (access and refresh tokens) are retained in the iOS Keychain only until you sign out, uninstall the app, or revoke access from your Google Account — whichever happens first. There is no server-side copy to delete, because we do not operate a server.
To delete all data immediately: tap Settings → Sign out in the app (removes tokens from your device), or revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions (also invalidates the tokens on Google's side), or simply delete the app.

5. Prohibited data uses

Raw and derived data obtained through the YouTube Data API is never:

Used or transferred for serving advertisements of any kind, including retargeting or interest-based advertising
Used for credit, lending, insurance, or any other eligibility/scoring decisions
Sold, rented, or transferred to data brokers, advertisers, or any other third party
Used to train or improve any AI/ML model

The only use of this data is to power the specific, user-facing playlist-management features described in Section 2, directly on your device. This complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements (see Section 7).

6. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party. The only data transfer that occurs is directly between your device and Google's YouTube Data API, governed by your Google Account and Google's own privacy policy.

7. Google API Services User Data Policy

Playlist Cleaner's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. Your controls

You can sign out of the app at any time from Settings, which removes the stored tokens from your device.
You can revoke Playlist Cleaner's access to your Google Account at any time via Google Account permissions.
Deleting the app from your device removes all locally stored tokens.

9. Children's privacy

Playlist Cleaner is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
